About The Band

The Dakota Ramblers Band began in 1956, with Goody Johnson and Mel Mertz. Both were from Eastern South Dakota, friends and musicians who decided to start a band and take it with them to Minnesota. The band has evolved over the years, but has continually stuck to its roots of Real, Traditional, Honky Tonkin Country Music....the kind you were accustomed to hearing on the radio and juke boxes in the 40's, 50's and 60's. Well, we're still doing it, and our fans tell us they're loving it as much as we are. We won't bore you with long, drawn out details of how we all got started in the business and how we got together...but the music speaks for itself. The Dakota Ramblers Band is the original, true Honky Tonk band in the region.  With over 1500 songs and over five decades as a band, we're here to stay and entertain you.

Please don't forget the song writers! Take time to find out who writes all those Country hits of the past and present that we all love so much. They are the true unsung superstars in this business! We support them and are grateful for their artistry, hard work, and contributions to Country Music.....

"We've heard of you guys for a long time now but until tonight have never seen you guys perform. Where have you been hiding? You guys are awesome...the BEST Country band in town. Thanks for playing Real Country". Trish, Fridley VFW Friday October 2, 2009.

"I've heard of The Dakota Ramblers for a long time now and I finally get to meet you. I'm a fellow musician and I'm from South Dakota. You guys are the BEST. Would you consider coming out to South Dakota sometime soon and playing for us"?
